Peter Stuyvesant (1600–1672) was the final Dutch Director-General in New Netherland, serving from 1647 until 1664. He also expanded New York City (then called New Amsterdam). He built the protective wall on Wall Street. Today there is a high-achiever public school named after him in Manhattan.
