Jon Stewart (born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz on November 28, 1962) is a liberal nine-time Emmy-winning American comedian, satirist, actor, author, and producer. He is best known as the host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and for his political satire.

Stewart has also appeared in several films including "Big Daddy," "The Faculty", "Half Baked" and "Death To Smoochy." . He was the host of the 2006 the Academy Awards, and will host the ceremony again in 2008.

Comedy style

Jon Stewart is best known for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, in which he tells the same George W. Bush jokes for 22 minutes per night, four nights a week. The show is taped before a live audience of about 200 people in New York City and regularly attracts viewership in excess of 100,000, making it Comedy Central's second-watched show after South Park.

Stewart considers The Daily Show to be bookended by shows featuring "talking puppets" (currently, South Park and The Colbert Report and as such does not consider it authoritative.

Political views

Stewart infamously appeared on CNN talk show Crossfire to promote his book, America (The Book). Stewart petulantly taunted the host and guests of the show, accusing them of "hurting America." As moderator Tucker Carlson tried futilely to restore order, Stewart called Carlson "a dick." This profanity was not censored and Crossfire was cancelled shortly thereafter.

Stewart maintains a largely amiable relationship with Bill O'Reilly and the two have appeared on each other's shows.

Stewart supported novelty Democrat candidate Jon Kerry in the 2004 Presidential election.

Jon Stewart has given money exclusively to Democrat politicians.[1]
