Imaginative image of Malachi (watercolor c. 1896–1902 by James Tissot)

The Book of Malachi is a book in the Old Testament. In the majority of Bibles it is the last book in Tanakh the Old Testament. It deals with prophecies about the end of days, rebukes for the sins of the people and the priests, and promises of future redemption.

Malachi[1] is the author of the Book of Malachi. He was the last prophet.

Its most famous (and sometimes controversial in the 'views' of some[2]) verse is 3:10 which is used to promote the concept of tithing.

  1. ↑ There are 3 opinions as to who Malachi really was. Either Mordecai, Ezra with this as a knickname, for certain reasons, or a third Prophet by this original name. Megilah 15 a)
  2. ↑ Though the concept was already acted by the Patriarchs of the Jewish people: Abraham Gen. 14:18, Jacob 28:22. Then in commandments on crop: Num. 18:21-24; 25-32. Deut. 12:17-21, 14: 22-27 (on finance, while it's the basic idea, wider details are more complex).
