The Kansas City Chiefs are an NFL team in the American Football Conference based out of Kansas City, Missouri. The team lost Super Bowl I to the Green Bay Packers, and won Super Bowl IV over the Minnesota Vikings. In 2018 then Rookie Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, broke a multitude of previous Kansas City records. Including but not limited to, passing yards in a season (at 5,097 passing yards, previously 4,591), highest passer rating ever achieved (at 113.8, previously 104.7), 13 - 100+ passer rating games (previously 10), 383 passes complete . The Chiefs play in Arrowhead Stadium.
The team was a charter member of the American Football League (which merged with the NFL in 1970) as the Dallas Texans (founded in 1960); despite being more successful on-field than the Dallas Cowboys (which were also founded in 1960) the Dallas area could not support two professional football franchises, and the Texans relocated to Kansas City in 1964.
The team was named as such as an homage to former Kansas City mayor H. Roe Bartle, who was nicknamed "The Chief" due to his position in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, an organization affiliated with the Boy Scouts. The naming also fit other KC area teams, such as the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League, the Kansas City Kings of the NBA (now the Sacramento Kings), and later the Kansas City Royals of MLB.
Super Bowls
The Chiefs have played in three Super Bowls, winning two (Super Bowl IV in 1969 and Super Bowl LIV in 2019) and losing one (the inaugural game in 1966).
