Mad is a humor magazine for older children and teenagers. Since the 1950s it has provided horror and satire, often shrewdly skewering the hypocrisy and foolishness of adults. Mad has brought awareness of consumer hype, alcoholism and drug abuse, as well as the futility of age-old feuds such as the Arab-Israeli conflict. The mascot of the magazin is Alfred E. Newman, a grin boy with a missing tooth and protruded ears. Mad was opposed to the Operation Iraqi Freedom and George W. Bushs politics.
