A champagne socialist is someone who, while possessed of great riches, supports socialist policies which have the aim of denying prosperity to other members of the community. These hypocrites, common in the British Labour Party and elsewhere, are similar to limousine liberals.
Examples of champagne socialists
- Lord Longford, wealthy British socialist peer and do-gooder.
- Robert Maxwell, socialist MP, publisher, fraudster, bully and suicide.
- Harold Pinter, socialist playwright and doyen of the Campden Hill[1] Set, a gritty band of resistance fighters against Conservative oppression.
