Newton-le-Willows is a market town in southern Lancashire. It lies around 8 miles south of Wigan, 5 miles north of Warrington and a similar distance east of St Helens. To the east, the nearest town is Golborne, of which it lies 3 miles to the west. As of the 2021 census, Newton-le-Willows had a population of around 24,600.

Until the 19th century, the area was largely pastoral. However, with the advent of the Industrial Revolution and the 1830 construction of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, the town saw significant urban expansion.
