Zodiac killer

the Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who operated in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Northern California. The killer targeted young couples, and his crimes were characterized by cryptic letters and ciphers sent to the police and local newspapers.

Despite the extensive investigations and numerous suspects, the case remains unsolved to this day.

Murders

David Faraday (17) and Betty Lou Jensen (16): On December 20, 1968, both were shot and killed while parked at a secluded spot on Lake Herman Road in Benicia, California. This was the first known attack attributed to the Zodiac Killer.

Darlene Ferrin (22) and Mike Mageau (19): On July 4, 1969, were shot in a parked car at Blue Rock Springs Park in Vallejo, California. Ferrin died from her injuries, but Mageau survived despite being critically wounded. This incident marked the first time the Zodiac Killer directly contacted the police, claiming responsibility for the attack.

Cecelia Shepard (22) and Bryan Hartnell (20): On September 27, 1969, was attacked while picnicking at Lake Berryessa, Napa County, California. The killer approached them wearing a black executioner-style hood and stabbed them both. Shepard tragically died from her injuries, while Hartnell survived the attack.

Paul Stine (29): On October 11, 1969, Stine, a cab driver, was shot and killed in the Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, California. This murder is significant as it was the last confirmed killing attributed to the Zodiac Killer. Following Stine's death, the killer sent a series of letters to taunt the authorities, even including a piece of Stine's bloodied shirt as evidence of his involvement.
