The Egyptians: What they Accomplished
Karl F. 9-8-11
The Ancient Egyptian culture is quite amazing. Despite their lack of modern technology, they were still able to accomplish many great things; some of which we may not be able to accomplish today.
One of the Egyptian's major accomplishments was the art of mummification. Mummification began around the Fourth Dynasty. It took the Egyptians a long time to perfect this art. But once they did, it was their goal to perfect it.
When mummifying a body, the first step is to remove all of the internal organs from the body. Next you treat the body with a type of resin. After that you wrap the body in bandages and place it in the tomb. This would turn out to be one of the Egyptians greatest accomplishments.
The Egyptians invented one of the first written languages, called Hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics uses pictures instead of words in order to communicate through writing. It was invented around 3100 B.C. No one could read hieroglyphics until some of Napoleons troops found the Rosetta stone in 1779. The Rosetta Stone has a decree from King Ptolemy V. The message was written three times. Once in Hieroglyphics, then Greek, and then Demotic. This was a very big step in understanding Hieroglyphics. The purpose of the Pyramids were for tombs for Pharaohs and rich Egyptians. The most famous Pyramid is the Giza Pyramid. It originally contained 2,300,000 separate blocks of stone. Each weighing 2.5 tons. When it was built the pyramid rose 481 feet. Many people do not believe that the Egyptians built the pyramids with the tools they had at there disposal. Some people think that aliens from a different planet or dimension built them. Today many people disagree if we could build a pyramid today, even with all of our advanced technology. I find it quite incomprehensible that even today, scientists cannot understand how Ancient Egyptians accomplished the amazing things that they did.
