The warmest year on record (calendar year) in the United States was 1934.[1]
However, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Climatic Data Center, the warmest 12-month period (since its records began in January 1895) was May 2011 to April 2012 (based on preliminary data).[2]
