Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (abbreviated VHEMT[1]) is a movement which advocates the voluntary extinction of humankind. The movement was founded by Les U. Knight.[2][3] The movement's members do not advocate illegal methods like murder or suicide, instead supporting a complete end to human reproduction,[4] which will ultimately result in the extinction of humankind. Thus, they use the slogan "phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed".[5] The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement is based on the belief that the Earth will be better without human beings.[6] It is primarily based in San Francisco.[7] The motto of the VHEMT is "May we live long and die out".[8]
