Valentine is a small town in far west Texas.

As its name suggests, it was named for Valentine's Day, the date of its founding. As such it is one of several places where the United States Postal Service cancels envelopes for Valentine's Day.

On August 16, 1931, the town and surrounding area were hit by a magnitude 5.8 earthquake, the strongest ever recorded in Texas.
