Tree bark

Bark is a hard wood-like material which covers trees and helps transfer nutrients. In is also a part of the tree's cambium, which adds a new layer of sap wood every year. The outside of the bark which is usually seen is known as the cork cambium, which is a hard, generally dry protective covering.

Bark is also onomatopoeia for the vocal sound dogs sometimes make.
