The Omen (1976) was a horror movie in the genre of The Exorcist, but did not do nearly as well at the box office. The Omen came in 7th its year in gross revenues of $48.5 million, on ticket sales of 22.8 million.[1] The Exorcist did four times better in 1973.

The Omen won only one Oscar, best original (musical) score, and there was a remake in 2006. There were also several sequels. However, its production costs were only $2.8M and its far outperformed its budget with box office receipts.

Decades later The Conjuring successfully revived this genre of horror films.
