Classic? It's more than that. It was one of the first true novels to be written, I believe, but I think we should seek the advice of JessicaT myself. I have read some of the book (400 pages through, but it has 1200 in total), and I think that this article represents it somewhat cruelly. ETrundel 13:44, 24 February 2009 (EST)

Which translation did you read? I've talked to more than one Japanese person who has read it in the original. He rapes and kidnaps girls, and gets away with it because as a royal he can "go anywhere and do anything" in a society where women were expected to submit to men in all things.
