Unsourced claim

Changes in the Earth's climate are threatening the polar bears habitat and the survival of the species.

Sounds like liberal propaganda to me, and self-contradictory at that. Didn't polar bears "evolve" several ice ages ago? Where do they go during periods of slightly warmer weather? (4 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit) --Ed Poor 08:48, 13 May 2007 (EDT)

Nature Canada makes the claim, but offers no evidence. It is therefore a political source, not a scientific source.

We can include their claim in a Politics of global warming article, as a verifiable "claim". That is, we know for a fact that Nature Canada makes that claim. It is a documented position they espouse.

The thing claimed, however, is not a fact. We would need to see population data, and an estimation by a scientist of the future prospects of the species. --Ed Poor 08:52, 13 May 2007 (EDT)

The claim that their survival is under threat because of threats to their habitat is entirely justified - threats to any creature's habitat could result in extinction, particularly if they cannot adapt (or evolve). I think you are reading too much into the statement to argue that it's "liberal" propaganda. Climate change is indisputable, what is up for debate is the mechanism and how far the change will go. There have been many climate changes in the past which have caused extinctions. Ian St John 09:09, 13 May 2007 (EDT)

I wouldn't have a problem with the claim being put back in, if qualified by saying "Global warming supporters claim that ...", or something along those lines. Philip J. Rayment 12:19, 13 May 2007 (EDT)
