Context

I'm a little confused by the stand-alone presentation of these isolated quotes... Perhaps a little context could be added? For example, what were they talking about at the time? What did Dawkins mean by his comment? Evidently it was along materialist/atheist lines, but beyond that I am not sure what his point was...
