Illiteracy
India has about 74%+ Literacy now :-

Protectionism in India
In Milton Friedman's seminal book, Free To Choose, Friedman holds up India as the prime example of how protectionism retards economic growth. Friedman cites how in homes in every village in India there are looms for making clothes rather than clothing being mass produced in textile factories. Friedman estimated in 1979 that India was at least 100 years behind the West in industrialization, and protectionism denied importing foreign manufactured clothing.
The recent dust up between Trump, Peter Navarro and India highlighted that 46% of India's labor force was employed in agriculture producing only 17% of GDP. Granted, that may be an inefficient use of resources, but it is not for globalists and Trump to decide. Trump & Navarro pressured India to accept American agricultural products or face 25% tariffs (the Russophobic Lady Lindsey stuff was tacked on to make it 50%), But Modi estimated it would create social upheaval with a reduction of agricultural workers.
Here is a classic case of the War on Sovereignty vs. Globalism. And there is no hiding the fact that Trump took the side of globalists and warmongers in this trade dispute, causing unprecedented harm to US foreign policy for the future. RobSZelensky Must Go! 11:20, September 5, 2025 (EDT)

The answer doesn't really belong on the India talk page, but it evidently was US domestic political purposes: to appease warmongers in the Republican party - with no forethought should Trump's threats against India fail. Here we also have the answer to why the rise of BRICS and global anti-American foreign policy sentiment: the rest of the planet is tired of being on the losing end of the crazy & outrageous US domestic policy disputes.
