Talk:Ice hockey

I'm new here and still learning how to work a wiki. I have a couple of suggestions for this page that I think would help.

First, I think this should be renamed Ice Hockey and have hockey redirect to that. Most people think of ice hockey when they type in hockey.

Second, I don't think the street hockey league should be included in this article. I question if it is a "top league," espescially since it has only been around for a year. Plus, it is very localized. I'm not sure if it belongs in an encyclopedia.

Plus, thanks to AliceBG for correcting my error (I need to proofread better). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. --JasterMereel 02:30, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

Race and sport

I was thinking about Obama and Tiger Woods lately. With pro golf finally dropping the color barrier, is ice hockey the last major sport with no black players? --Ed Poor Talk 14:26, 3 November 2008 (EST)

No, there are black players, and there have been for a long time. Eg, Grier on the San Jose Sharks. RSchlafly 14:37, 3 November 2008 (EST)
Yeah, hockey's color barrier went down in the '50's when Willy O'Ree joined the Bruins (don't remember the exact date and too lazy to look it up right now. There are 20ish black players in the NHL now Mikek 14:39, 3 November 2008 (EST)
Two words "Grant Fuhr"--JeanJacques 15:11, 3 November 2008 (EST)

Okay, I must have been thinking of that scene in Guess Who where Ashton Kutcher says ice hockey and NASCAR are the whitest sports in America. Apparently as the black population of Canada has increased, so has the percentage of black Canadians in the NHL.

Hey, what do you call 350 white men chasing one black man? (N.B. This is not a racist joke, it's from the movie - which had a black director.) --Ed Poor Talk 13:08, 4 November 2008 (EST)
