Talk:Existentialism

I've heard it said that there are existentialist sentiments in Ecclesiastes. This might be worth discussing.--John 01:24, 5 March 2007 (EST)

Perhaps a philosopher here could clean this up. Existentialism is much different and more complex than explained here. For instance, many people see existentialism as opposed to religion, rather than as giving oneself to God. We need a much better article here, lest someone uses this one to try to find useful information. I am not an expert qualified to do this.

I might be able to put in a word or two after a study of existentialists. It's also worth noting that the first modern existentialist was a Christian, by the name of Soren Kirkegaard. I'm still quite annoyed the the insubstantiality of Wikipedia's article on Existentialism. Note the messianic-type language in the following passage: "Existential themes have been hinted at throughout history." But it may be of note that Job, Ecclesiastes, Augustine, and Aquinas all hinted at Kirkegaard's themes long before pop-culture got ahold of them. Existentialism in Christianity is quite possibly one of the biggest issues on the frontier of Christian issues. --Ophiuchus 01:10, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
