Trolling

Serious thought should be given to the deletion of this page and the "essays" to which it refers. In essence all these pages constitute trolling. Conservative consistently comments that anyone who criticises these pages is just a thin-skinned atheist who should therefore be ignored. I disagree. It is quite clear that these pages are a deliberate attempt to upset atheists and accordingly are just another example of trolling. The effect is that some of those offended sign up as editors in order to get their own back. They attack the unlocked pages on this site (all of these "essays" being locked).

Furthermore, none of these pages are in the least bit encyclopedic. Poking fun at a group within society is not an activity undertaken by any reputable encyclopedia of which I am aware. I believe that they lower the tone of the site and damage its reputation.

I would be interested on people's thoughts. I would also be happy to hear from Conservative if he can manage to stay on topic. --XavierC 19:11, 30 June 2011 (EDT)

XavierC, although the secular left is known for ridiculing religion since at least the time of French Revolution (see: Atheism and mockery), the secular left is known for its humorlessness when it comes to others mocking of its ideology (See also: Atheism and humor and Atheism and intolerance).

XavierC, have you read the atheism and mockery article? Is this another case of a thin-skinned atheist engaging in atheist hypocrisy? Due the prideful nature of atheists, they often can dish it mockery, but they cannot take it. Conservative (talk) 21:33, 10 October 2015 (EDT)

It's probably rather a question of Original Research. CP does allow original research (see #10) and this article appears properly labeled, AFAIK. But please, please, be respectful of other users. Even WP, as I understand it, considers labeling another editor "troll" can be considered a form of personal attack.

If the primary author of this entry chooses to engage in discussion on this talk page, please restrict you comments to discusion of content & sources. But if he chooses to ignore critics on this discussion page and not respond at all, please be respectful of his right of choice in that matter, as well. Thank you. I understand that many thin skinned and proud atheists are going to be upset about the satires. I can live with that. For all their mocking, atheists certainly have thin skins when it comes to comedy and satire. It has been said that their father has a thin skin as well. Within Judeo-Christianity there is a long history of using ridicule to mock opposing beliefs (see: The right to ridicule: what do readers think?). For example, Baal mocked the prophet of Baal, the early church fathers used ridicule against pagan superstitions and Martin Luther employed ridicule as well.[1][2]

Atheists are often arrogant and thin-skinned (see: Atheism and arrogance and Atheism and emotional intelligence) and that is why they often take exception those ridiculing their foolish ideology/religion. Conservative 07:40, 22 February 2015 (EST)

Mixed feelings

I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand, a large percentage of atheists are white, males in the Western World and atheists/evolutionists use the government to advance their ideology (see: Western atheism and race and Atheism and women). In addition, atheists often live in Communist countries whose leaders often subscribe to militant atheism to varying degrees. And evolutionists/atheists/liberals have used strong-arm tactics to cause some people to lose their jobs/lives (see: Militant atheism and Suppression of alternatives to evolution and Atheism and mass murder). So atheists/evolutionists are not exactly an oppressed minority. Also, humor/satire is often rightly used to humble proud, stuffed shirts and atheists are known for their arrogance (See: Atheism and arrogance). Also, Elijah mocked the prophets of Baal.

On the other hand, atheists often come from households often come from homes with distant or non-existent parents. See: Atheism and poor relationships with parents. So a certain degree of empathy/pity is called for. In addition, although God is said to laugh at the calamity of the stubborn and proud (Proverbs 1:26), He also is long-suffering and gives mercy to the contrite. And of course, there is the issue of Christian forgiveness and being at peace with all men if possible.

Furthermore, according to the University of Cambridge, historically, the "most notable spread of atheism was achieved through the success of the 1917 Russian Revolution, which brought the Marxist-Leninists to power." And as noted above, liberal/leftists governments do promote atheistic/evolutionists ideology (See: Atheism and politics and Evolution and liberalism). I see a trend of "big governmentism" losing more and more favor in the world (see: The Fate of the State by MARTIN VAN CREVELD) due to bankrupt (or highly debt leveraged) liberal/leftists governments being forced to enact austerity measures in order to appease their creditors or in order to avoid eventual financial collapse plus other factors as well (2014 U.S. midterm elections, rioting and austerity measures in Belgium, etc.). Critics of big/corrupt governments can hold these governments more accountable via the internet.

In addition, for reasons related to demography and other factors, atheism does not have a very promising future (see: Desecularization and Decline of global atheism). Various scholars/individuals think the future major conflict of civilizations/worldviews will be much more centered on Christianity/Islam. There is sound scholarship that atheistic ideology will wane in the world (Eric Kaufmann, Peter L. Berger, etc.).

I wanted to add something. Jesus exercised wisdom and treated people differently. He was understandably tough towards the religious leaders of his day, but showed mercy towards many also. And liberalism and atheistic/evolutionist ideologies have become state protected in varying degrees in some countries.

I do think there is a place for the type of head-on Sherman tank type criticism of atheism practiced by Vox Day (along with his wit to show the folly of atheism), but sometimes he could exercise more mercy.[3] At the same time, there is a place for diplomatic Christian organizations reaching out to atheists such as the Fixed Point Foundation. Solomon said, there is a "A time for war and a time for peace."

Personally, I endeavor to be flexible and not take a one size fits all approach to my interactions with people. I have had cordial/friendly discussions with atheists/agnostics/liberals and others in my life. On the other hand, I have been more pointed in my interactions with atheists/agnostics/liberals/others in my life. Conservative 19:25, 8 November 2014 (EST)
