I did cosplay before cosplay was a thing- basically, my step-mother, with whom I lived, was a Latin teacher, so obviously I took Latin for three years as my foreign language requirement for graduation. Part of that was annual attendance at the Junior Classical League, wherein I always entered the costume competition. All sewing was done by hand by me because authenticity was the biggest factor in judging. I remember roleplaying as Hephaestus and Laocoon. I know now that such a thing is sacrilegious, but I was basically the opposite of the person I am now in my teenage years. Since then, I've attended anime cons annually for four years now held at the college from which I graduated, mostly to show support as an alumni and donate money to the college, which the organizer respects. There's a lot of cosplay there, and unless it's related to Pokemon or Batman, I nearly always have to ask who they're masquerading as.

In summary, I can provide a bit of personal insight into cosplay, but I can't really source any of it. Is that okay? --Pious 02:24, 25 July 2016 (CDT)
