So, Ev Dirksen voted against the coalition he led when he and the Republicans voted for the Civil Rights act of 1965? No mention of Bluedogs, just "It continued as a potent force until the 1990s when the southern Democrats were replaced by southern Republicans. It no longer exists." Nowhere is the term Boll Weavil? yes, Dirkesen and the Republicans broke with the southern Democrats on civil rights. there was no coalition in operation on that issue. Blue dogs are a more recent development and don't actually form a coalition with the GOP--they are a caucus inside the Democratic party. Good point re Boll Weavils--they should be included and I'll work on that. 17:32, 11 September 2009 (EDT)
