Talk:Ch'uing Dynasty
This article is far from great. I'd prefer the use of "Qing" in place of "Ch'ing", and the title "Chu'ing" is just plain wrong. The information is scant and not great - it could use mention of the facts that: the Qing dynasty lasted from 1644 until 1911, when the Xinhai revolution toppled it; the last emperor, Puyi, was a Manchu who lived into the 1960s; the Manchus came from Manchuria and had previously been a nomadic hunter-gatherer tribe, who were related to the Mongols linguistically and ethnically, and who built up their power slowly over many years, contributing to the fall of the Ming in a big way; that there was great anti-Manchu sentiment throughout the Qing period; that there Qing experienced great upheaval and massive population growth, and that the decline of China in the 19th century was under Manchu/Qing government control; and a lot else. Lots of stuff to talk about - the dynasty lasted a long time. Just some suggestions. I'm not an expert on the Qing period, my area of expertise being the classical era, but if no one else steps forward with the ability and information to re-work this article, I'll do it at some point. Agreed on Pinyin Usage
You're right. Nobody used Wade-Giles any more and Pinyin is now the accepted international standard for romanising Chinese. In fact there is now an article on the Qing, so I would suggest deleting it, and then redirecting Ch'ing Dynasty to Qing. Luojie 08:39, 15 November 2007 (EST)
- I strongly agree. The text of this article is unsaveable, and the title is wrong. Bradlaugh 14:07, 14 January 2008 (EST)
