Had DeSantis made a quicker choice to fill Rubio's seat, Moody could have been leap-frogged over all the freshman Senators sworn in on January 3, 2025. Now she's at the bottom of the list. Seniority is very important in the Senate. In the House, the Speaker appoints Committee chairs; in the Senate, Senior Senators get to pick and choose which committees they want to chair.
