It's common to speak about girls who starve themselves as:

• having an eating disorder

  which is "caused" by a "disease"

Etymology of term "anorexia nervosa"

This article could point out that "anorexia nervosa" means "neurotic loss of appetite", but this etymology is very misleading. Anorexics think and talk about food a lot, they have not actually lost their appetites, they just have an addiction to fasting. Carltonio (talk) 02:58, 6 June 2020 (EDT)
