Talk:Anna Netrebko

What's interesting is the name, Netrebko, ending "o" suggests Ukrainian origins. Wikipedia says she is descended from Kuban Cossacks, i.e. Muslim. (Actually Kazaks, but we've seen the word "Cossack" recently creep back into English since the 1990s opening. There were Ukrainian "Cossacks" who settled in the Kuban province, as well). But her real sin (and that of her forebears) appears to be embracing Russian culture, like an Uncle Tom. RobSLet's Go Brandon! 22:17, March 4, 2022 (EST)

Interesting point. Is the Met actually banning a Ukrainian by mistake?--Andy Schlafly (talk) 00:39, March 5, 2022 (EST)
I don't know the details yet. I saw report that implied she quit voluntarily cause of all the Russophobia and hate. We'll probably have to wait to hear her talk, and may come from a German source. It may be some time.
She recently performed her first Wagnerian role as Elsa in Lohengrin. I saw it, it was an outstanding production. No way will the Germans put up with this hate and racism emanating from the United States. Cultural ties between Germany and Russia have only deepened with mutual uncoerced love, respect, and admiration between the two since the end of WWII. RobSLet's Go Brandon! 01:47, March 5, 2022 (EST)
Hitler's ashes would roll over in their scattered grave if he saw the enthusiasm which German audiences embrace a Polish and Russian lead actors in a Wagner production. [1] It is Americans now who treat Russians as third world spearchuckers. RobSLet's Go Brandon! 02:29, March 5, 2022 (EST)
