Swansea University (formerly University of Wales Swansea) is a conservative Church of England institution located to the east of the city of Swansea. Though it has a small student population (1100) regional religious meetings are regularly held there. Though the small campus population means there are relatively few subjects, the English department is amongst the best in the United Kingdom, despite being frequently ignored by other institutions for its conservative literature programs. Postgraduate students are famously barred from most academic conferences, though the vice-chancellor has stated that this shall be remedied in the near future.

In 2006 a small number of students protested to both gain religious freedoms (non-Christian groups are not permitted and Church of England ones are preferred) and to join the NUS. Disciplinary action was threatened and all students backed down.
