Stephanie Lazarus is an American female citizen and detective of the LAPD specializing in art theft who killed Sherri Rasmussen on February 5, 1986 at Rasmussen's apartment using a stolen gun that she soon disposed of. Ramussen was her romantic rival. Lazarus bit Rasmussen during the struggle before the murder. A very lengthy piece of detective work, including a period on the cold case list, finally narrowed the list suspects down to Lazarus in 2012. Lazarus drank a styrofoam cup of coffee in her office and discarded it and detectives found that disposable cup. They confirmed the DNA matches with Lazarus. The detectives invited her to an interview in 2012. They very carefully interviewed her for an hour. After the first 60 minutes, it finally dawns on her that she is trapped.[1] They then arrested her for murder. Her bail was set at $10 million. She plead not guilt and was convicted of the crime in 2012. She appealed and the conviction was upheld in July 2015.[2]
