The Cinnamon Bear, a subspecies of the American Black Bear, is the smallest North American bear.

Although bears are omnivorous, subsisting on a diet of berries, honey, acorns, insects, fish, carrion and occasionally live prey, some have shown a tendency to go after human beings in particular. Studies have indicated that victims of bear attacks are disproportionately conservative, prompting some to speculate if state and federal parks, such as [[Yellowstone National Park]] and [[Yosemite National Park]] were originally set aside by [[liberals]] for the purpose of selectively breeding bears to hunt conservatives. It has been suggested that bears hunt conservatives by detecting their righteous, [[God]]-fearing [[soul]]s, which liberals lack.

Bears are frequent mascots for schools and sports teams, including the Chicago Bears (football), the Chicago Cubs (baseball), the UCLA Bruins, and the Brown University Bears, and the Coel(IN) College Bears.
 
Two she-bears make an appearance in II Kings 2:23-24, verses concerning the prophet Elisha frequently cited by atheists and nonbelievers.
