::it's now a celebration of freedom for ALL Americans and what it means to a group that did not have freedom until 1865 is an important insight. [[User:RJJensen|RJJensen]] 21:44, 2 July 2009 (EDT)
:::I guess, if you want the world to know how July 4th wasn't special, hypocrisy of America's ideals. Plus, how southern whites were not happy with black celebrating. How Jefferson was hated. Nothing smacks of patriotism there RJJensen.--[[User:Jpatt|Jpatt]] 22:03, 2 July 2009 (EDT)
:::I think southerners were not so much anti-black as anti-Yankee; but they got over it. I don't think Jefferson was hated but ignored in the North before 1824, an issue Daniel Webster helped resolve. Yes, let the world know what happened--they already know about slavery but they need to know how we handled the issue; it makes for a rich history. [[User:RJJensen|RJJensen]] 22:06, 2 July 2009 (EDT)
