272 bytes added, 00:09, August 7, 2024
The '''2024 Starmer riots''' refer to the "[[far-right]]" civil unrest that broke out in July and August 2024, less than 5 weeks into the premiership of [[Keir Starmer]]. The demonstrations were in response to the murder of 3 British girls at a dance class in Southport, Lancashire, on 29 July 2024 by an ethnic Rwandan born in [[Cardiff]]. The initial demonstration took place in Southport itself. In response to the Southport demonstration, the Labour government exposed the two-tier nature of its response to protests and civil unrest; observers in the media noted that Home Secretary Yvette Cooper responded more aggressively to the Southport demonstrators, who were mainly wite British, than she had to a riot in Leeds, Yorkshire 2 weeks prior, caused by migrants.<ref>[https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2024/07/31/a-tale-of-two-riots-uk-accused-of-double-standards-depending-on-who-is-behind-civil-unrest/ A Tale of Two Riots: UK Government Accused of Double Standards Depending on Who is Behind Civil Unrest]</ref>
Only 31% of Brits approved of Starmer's response to the riots, with over 50% disapproving.<ref>[https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/08/06/almost-half-of-public-think-starmer-handling-riots-badly/ Almost half of public believe Starmer is handling riots badly]</ref> [[Elon Musk]] has argued that a civil war is "inevitable" as a result of the Labour government's response to the riots.<ref>[https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/08/06/riots-police-tackle-all-sides-equal-ferocity-two-tier/ Musk brands Starmer ‘two-tier Keir’ amid row over riot policing]</ref>
