Chromatius of Rome

Chromatius was a city prefect in Rome under Diocletian. He was later converted to Christianity by St Tranquillinus and baptized by Polycarp.<ref>Catholic Online, http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=266</ref><ref>This according the Legend of St. Sebastian, Ebenezer Cobham Brewer, A Dictionary of Miracles, (Chatto & Wendrus, 1901), p. 11</ref> After becoming a Christian, he freed 1400 slaves.<ref>W.E.H. Leckey, History of European Morals, 1869, p. 69</ref> He had one son, Tiburtius, who is held to be a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. Chromatius is said to have been martyred in the third century, but no details of his martyrdom remain.<ref>Catholic Online, http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=266</ref> His feast day is August 11.
