Rumspringa, or "running around," is a time period in the lives of unbaptized Amish teenagers that typically begins at age 16, when they can exercise great freedom for a few years before deciding whether to commit to the Amish church and lifestyle as adults.[1]
Unfortunately, sometimes illegal drugs make an inroad into a small percentage of Amish during this period of freedom.[2]
