Roman citizenship

Roman citizenship was a powerful status that conferred special rights on all its members, including Saint Paul.

Roman citizenship was not based on the location of birth, but by being born to parents (often just the father) were Roman citizens (cives), or during one's life by grant by generals and emperors.
