Regret is a feeling of sorrow or being sorry, wishing that something had not happened the way that it did.

The Coase theorem and many parables of the New Testament stand against regret, and instead explain the value of viewing the present and future with an entirely new perspective disconnected from perceived mistakes of the past.
To the extent regret includes wishing for a better outcome for oneself, it is based in pride and is not falsifiable and thus is unproductive.
