Raleigh is the capital city of North Carolina, named for Sir Walter Raleigh. Together with Durham and Chapel Hill, Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle Park. It is the second largest city in North Carolina after Charlotte.
Professional sports in Raleigh
The NHL's Carolina Hurricanes moved to Raleigh from Hartford, Connecticut in 1997. They play at the RBC Center, formerly the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena. In 2006, the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup over the Edmonton Oilers.
