The Rainbow Coalition was founded by progressive Democrat Jesse Jackson in 1984 to forge a base for his two presidential campaigns.[1] The name was first coined by Jim Jones in the late 1950s and early 1960s, which Jones used to refer to his "Rainbow Family."[2][3] Jones and his wife adopted three Korean children, a Native American, and were the first white couple in Indiana to adopt an African American child.[4]
