Psalms in Hebrews

Psalms in Hebrews are the quotations from the Book of Psalms by the author, who was possibly Jesus, of the Epistle to the Hebrews.

Commentators stated that the author was quoting the Greek Septuagint, rather than the original Hebrew Old Testament. As one commentator explains:

It is obvious that the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews is not quoting from the Hebrew scriptures because Psa. 102:25 (101:26) in the Hebrew does not have any word equivalent to κύριε, which occurs in both Psa. 101:26 in the LXX and Heb. 1:10 in the Greek NT.

”

Hebrews 1:10-12

Hebrews 1:10-12 appears to be a quote from Psalm 102:25-27 as follows: Heb 1:10-12 :

“At the beginning, O Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; and they will all grow old like a garment. You will roll them up like a cloak, and like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

Psalms 102:25-28 :

“

I plead, O my God, do not take me in the midst of my days. Your years last through all generations. Of old you laid the earth’s foundations; the heavens are the work of your hands. They perish, but you remain; they all wear out like a garment; Like clothing you change them and they are changed, but you are the same, your years have no end.

”

Hebrews 3:7-8

“

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,

”

Heb 3:7-8 which echoes Psalm 95:8 and 1 Samuel 6:6.

Hebrews 11:3

Hebrews 11:3 is unique and speaks in the first person plural, including the author. Parts of its can be found in Genesis 1:1 and Psalm 33:6.
