Perninae is a subfamily of medium-sized, broad-winged birds of prey, and collectively known as "honey-buzzards" due to several species being specialist feeders of bee and wasp larvae.
Species
The taxonomy is somewhat inexact, with proposals for changes in classification as late as 2018.[1] At one time authorities placed the swallow-tailed kite (Elanoides forficatus) within the subfamily Milvinae. Several authorities consider the three vulture species of the subfamily Gypaetinae to be a part of Perninae.[2]
