Peppermint Patty is a tomboy in the Peanuts comic strip. She seems to actually like Charlie Brown, although she gets frustrated with him and tries to get him to do things he is not really willing to do. An ongoing theme is Peppermint Patty making some kind of comment to Charlie Brown (who she calls "Chuck") that "(he) sort of (likes her, doesn't he?)", projecting her feelings onto him and claiming that is how he feels about her. Charlie Brown, who could never imagine being liked romantically by a girl, never clues in on Peppermint Patty's interest in him, which ends up frustrating her. She also becomes extremely jealous when Charlie Brown fixates on the Little Red Haired Girl, who she regards as a rival for his affections (especially so in the TV special Happy New Year, Charlie Brown!).
Peppermint Patty has a friend Marcie who hangs around with her and calls her "sir", much to Peppermint Patty's annoyance. Although she excels in athletics (particularly her favorite sport, baseball), Peppermint Patty has a tendency to be weak in academics, to often be clueless and misunderstand basic ideas and concepts known by nearly everyone around her (the most well-known example involving Snoopy, who everyone else knows is a dog but who Peppermint Patty thinks is "that funny-looking kid with the big nose") and to ignore any advice telling her otherwise, which lead to embarrassing situations for her which she refuses to take responsibility for and for which she blames those who tried to tell her the truth (reflecting examples of deliberate ignorance, denial and stupidity, all liberal traits). It is this cluelessness which has often caused her to get low grades in school (most often a D-, considered either a borderline pass or a fail in the American public education system, depending on the school).
