Modus operandi (M.O.) is Latin for "operating method."[1] Today, this term is typically used in reference to a standard operating procedure of a specific person or group.[2] Police detectives and insurance fraud investigators find that each criminal frequently follows a pattern. A burglar may always enter by a second-story rear window or steal a bicycle attached loosely to a parking meter.
