Milestones
Milestones is a studio album recorded by jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis on February 4 and March 4, 1958 and released that year by Columbia Records.
Milestones was recorded combining the bebop genre on some tracks with modal jazz on other tracks, using blues material for the tracks. On one track, "Sid's Ahead", Davis plays both trumpet and piano, playing trumpet in the song's ensemble sections as well as soloing on trumpet, while switching to piano during the saxophone solos by sidemen Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. The first track on the album's second side, originally titled "Miles" but later retitled "Milestones" as its title track for later reissues, was recorded in modal style and would influence Davis' later recordings (most notably his 1959 album Kind of Blue).
Originally released in mono, Milestones has since been reissued in remixed and remastered stereo.
