Mecosta County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population was 28,581. History

Mecosta County was established in 1840 and named after Chief Mecosta, a leader of the Ottawa Native American tribe. The county was initially inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Ottawa and the Chippewa.
