The Massada fortress was the last courageous holdout of the so-called "Jewish rebellion" against Roman tyranny that lasted from about 67 to 73 AD, including the destruction of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D.
The Massada fortress continues to be excavated, with a discovery of a scroll containing the 81st to the 85th Psalms unearthed in 1963.[1]
