The Massachusetts Convention of Towns was a gathering of patriot leaders held after Lord Hillsborough dissolved the Massachusetts Assembly. The Assembly was dissolved in response to the influential Massachusetts Circular Letter.
The more active leaders of the Convention, including John Hancock, James Otis Jr., and Samuel Adams, believed that the Colony needed an armed resistance. The Convention of Towns was held in Faneuil Hall.
