Marcos Castillo (Caracas, 1897 - Caracas, 1966) was a Venezuelan painter. He, in Venezuela, took to its last consequences the formal studies of the inanimate. Influenced by Cezanne and Fauve, he developed an opus centered basically on the still life. His language evolves from the structural search to the final disintegration of form in favor of beautifully rendered color effects. as we can appreciate in the work Girasoles (Sunflowers). [1] In 1940, Castillo was awarded the Venezuelan national painting prize. He taught at the School of Plastic Arts in Caracas.
Girasoles, ca. 1939.
