The MG42 (German Maschinengewehr 42) was the standard machine gun used by Nazi Germany during World War II. It used the 7.62mm standard rifle caliber round, and was capable of firing nearly 1,200 rounds per minute. Due to this extremely high rate of fire, the MG42 was nicknamed "Hitler's Buzzsaw" by the Allied troops.
