Kincardineshire

Kincardineshire, sometimes known as The Mearns, is a county on the east coast of Scotland. To the north lies Aberdeenshire, with the River Dee forming part of the border, and Angus lies to the south-west across the River North Esk. The county town is Stonehaven, but the county takes its name from Kincardine, the former county town which is now a ghost town. The county has three other ancient burghs; Banchory, Inverbervie and Laurencekirk. As a result of urban expansion from the 19th century onwards, the southernmost suburbs of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire's county town, are also within Kincardineshire.

Administration

Kincardinshire is administered by Aberdeenshire Council, except for the parts which form suburbs of Aberdeen which are under Aberdeen City Council.
