Jesus Is King (album)
Jesus Is King is a 2019 album by Kanye West, his ninth release. It was released shortly after his public announcement of his conversion to Christianity.
Although largely criticized by the secular press as a bad album, upon its debut it charted at #1 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums, Top Gospel Albums, Billboard 200 (his ninth consecutive debut at #1 on this chart[1]), Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts, the first album in history to do so, and furthermore held every position on the top 10 on both the Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs charts (actually holding down the top 11 on that chart with all of the album's songs).[2] Overall it debuted at #1 on 22 different Billboard charts.[3][4]
Furthermore, all 11 songs from the album entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[5]
Among the album's songs is "Closed on Sunday", which references the popular restaurant chain Chick-fil-A that is closed on Sundays.
West required those working on the album to practice a sexually-pure lifestyle.[6]
